[ PART I ]

걔 아직도 나한테 화 나있는거 같은데 내가 뭘 잘못한건지 모르겠어.	I think she is still mad at me but...  [be angry at/with, be upset with] I don't know what I did wrong.
너가 무슨 말을 잘못한 거 아니야?	1) Maybe it's something you said.  2) Could it be something you said?
어... 뭐.. 그럴수도 있어.	(Yeah) it could be.
맞아, 너가 말조심을 좀 안하는 편이잖아. 또 무슨 말실수를 했나보지.	Yeah, you know, you tend to be a little careless with your words. You must've said something you shouldn't have, again.

  be careful what you say  : 말조심을 하다. 
 = be careful with your words,
 = be careful with the things you say

 

[ PART II ]

1. say something one shouldn't : 지나친 말을 한 "말실수", 상황에 적합하지 않은 말을 한 '말실수"

  - I said some things (that) I shouldn't have.     : 내가 말실수를 좀 했어. 

  - I said a lot of things (that) I shouldn't have.   : 내가 말실수를 좀 많이 했어. 

  - He said some things to her that he (really) shouldn't have. : 그가 그녀한테 말실수를 좀 했어. 

  - He should've been more careful with his words. : 걔가 좀 더 말조심을 했었어야지. 

   (= He shoul've been more careful with what he said.)

 

2. say something that upset[hurt, anger, piss off] someone : 상처를 주거나 서운/섭섭하게 만드는 말실수

  - He said some things that upset her. 

  - I think I said some things that upset her.  I should've been more careful with what I said. 

 

3. 원래 하지 않으려던 말을 실수로 내뱉음. 얘기하고 보니 실수였던 것으로 판단되는 말실수

  1) accidentally (실수로) 

    - I accidentally told her about that. 

    - I accidentally mentioned something.  

  2) make the mistake of telling[saying] : ~을 말해버리는 실수를 저지르다. 

    - I made the mistake of telling him where I live(d). : 내가 바보같이 그 사람한테 내가 어디 산다고 얘기를 해버렸어. 

    - I made the mistake of giving her my phone number. 

 

4.  내가 한 말이 의도한 어감/뉘앙스로 전달이 안되어 오해가 발생했을 때, 

    - 내가 하려던 얘기는 그런게 아니었어 / 그런 식으로 얘기를 하려던게 아니었어. 

     : I didn't mean that.   

     : That's not what I meant. 

     : That didn't come out right. 말이 잘못 나왔어. 

     : I didn't mean for that to sound like it did. 

 

5.  say something stupid

  - I said something stupid.
