생활 필수 표현 - 015. 처음에는, 애초에, 먼저, ~하는게 처음이다

1. at first : 처음에는

  - At first it was a little awkward. = It was a little awkward at first.

  - I wasn't very interested at first

  - At first it was a little difficult[hard] but is was OK once[after] I got used to it. 

 

2. in the first place / to begin with : 애초에 / 처음부터

  - I think there was some misunderstanding in the first place[to begin with]

  - I made some mistake(s) in the first place[to begin with].

  - I didn't check properly in the first place[to begin with]

  - I shouldn't have brought it up in the first place[to begin with].

    = I shouldn't have mentioned it in the first place[to begin with]

 

3. first : 먼저

  - He brought it up first. = He mentioned it first.

  - He hit me first. 

  - I asked (you) first. 

 

4. for the first time : 처음으로 

  - I met her in person for the first time. = I met her for the first time in person. 

  - They had an argument[fight] for the first time since they started going out[dating / seeing each other].

   = They had their first argument since they started going out. 

  - I drove by myself for the first time since I got my driver's license. 

  - I bought a new house for the first time in forever.

 

  cf. I first met her in person. - 우선[일단] 내가 그녀를 직접 만났어. 

      I first met in high school. - 우리는 고등학교에서 처음 만났어. 

 

5. It's my first time +ing : ~을 하는 것이 처음이다. 

  - It was my first time meeting her in person.  =  It was the first time I met her in person. 

  - It was my first time going on stage.  (V + ing : V하고 있는 그 시점에 대한  /  to V : V하기 전 시점에 대한)

  - It is the first time + I'm traveling by myself. 

  - It was the first time I met her in my life. = It was my first time meeting her in my life. 

  - It was the first time I had watched ice hockey match full time. = It was my first time watching an ice hockey match full time. 

 

  - It's the first time I'm going to drive by myself. = It's going to be the first time I drive by myself.
