. He won the lottery. He spent a fortune to buy a new good-looking house.
 
8 Knock one’s socks off To give s/o a pleasant surprise
. She bought a new dress to knock her boyfriend’s sock’s off.
. My children saved money and bought a gift and gave it to their mom. They knocked her sock’s off.
 
9 Check it out To see, to examine
. These jeans look nice. Let’s go in and check it out.
 
10 Try on To put on clothes to see if they fit
. Can I try this on?
