. At first, skating can be difficult but after a while, you get the hang of it.
  . When I arrived in Canada, everything is unfamiliar with me but now I get the hang of it.
 
2 To learn/teach s/o the ropes To train s/o, to teach s/o what they need to do their “job” better, can be about life too.
. When I first started working at the gas station, I was just 14 years old. I had no clue what I was doing but a guy named Chris took me under his wings and showed me the ropes.
. I am sometimes slower compared to my colleague when I do the new job. But, once I learn the ropes, I usually complete my job faster than them by using standardizing the work process.
