2 To hold a grudge To continue keeping hard feelings against someone after a disagreement, a fight or a argues
. The two friends had a big fight. Now, they haven’t spoken to each other for months! They’re still holding a grudge against each other. Hopefully, it will all be water under the bridge soon!
 
3 no hard feelings No grudge, no problem, I forgive you, it’s all good.
. A: Hey Jennifer! I’m really sorry about getting upset yesterday. I didn’t mean to snap at you!

4 Let me get this straight. Let me understand this clearly.

  B: Hold on, let me get this straight. We have masks to try and keep everyone safe, but some people don’t want to wear them? How is that possible?

. Nick, thank you for working with us, but I need to level with you. My business is about to fold and I need to start laying people off. I’m sorry but I gotta let you go.

. A: I really needed that job. I can’t believe they laid me off! I miss my old job. This sucks!
  B: Yes, it does suck, but there’s no use crying over spilled milk. Pick yourself up and dust yourself off. It’s time to find a new job!
 
6 Not on your life! No way
. A: Hey dad, can I drive your new car to the party this weekend? It’s downtown
B: Not on your life! ( = Over my dead body! = No way! = That’s out of the question!
       = Sure! When pigs fly! )

 
6 To be well off Strong financial condition, they have money
. I’m not worried about him losing his job. His parents are very well off. I’m sure they will support him until he gets back on his feet again!
